Personal Narrative Reflection Paper - 1069 Words

I have always questioned, why would anyone want to know my story. I don’t think that I have an impressive testimony, because I haven’t had experiences that others have—my parents aren’t divorced, I haven’t struggled with alcohol or drug consumption, and I haven’t dealt will sexual promiscuity. I have heard many testimonies telling about their struggles and how they have overcome them. Although, I may feel as though I do not have an elaborate or super life-changing story - I realize I have my own story. The struggles I have dealt with and still deal with my own to tell. People always asked me, â€Å"Why are you always so smiley?† My church approved answer was simple, â€Å"I have the joy of the Lord in me.† But inside I knew I wasn’t happy, but I had to show the world that I was always happy. Some part of me was aching for someone to listen. I longed for that one friend I could tell anything to. I could share about how I was actually feeling, but because I am a PK, I felt I couldn’t find that person. I can’t show people I am weak; I can’t have any struggles. Life is always good for a PK. Right? This was the pressure I put on myself and what I felt from others. Other’s expectation to answer the question is â€Å"I am doing well†, a quick answer. I began to question my answer to â€Å"Why are you always so happy?† and was wondering if I was only happy to cover up my own brokenness; â€Å"good Christians† were supposed to always smile, and be happy. I had a strong relationship with J esus, so I should always have a reason to smile.
