Firstly, internet is a useful tool for doing assignments and research quickly because instead of taking a book out and looking for the answer would take up a lot of time. Also the fact and information you look up is already on the internet and the internet is more updated then the textbook. When you would get homework in class you can find the answer on the internet within a few minutes. The textbook would take a lot of time researching and writing the answer down on a sheet of paper. But instead of that you would use the internet to research and type it on the computer because it would do faster and save time. Therefore internet is a useful tool for doing assignments and research. Secondly, internet is a useful tool for saving document on an e-mail and transferring to usb. Instead of taking your paper out and writing for hours and hours keeping it with you it would take a long time. When you do it on the computer the internet would automatically save the document. If you would write it down on a piece of paper you could have lost it any time and would have gotten ripped by a dog or your brother/sister. If you want to send it to your friend it would take a minute on the internet. When you would write it on the paper you would have to write it again to give to your friend and that would be boring or waste of time. When you want to do it on the power point you would open your e-mail, gather information from the usb and it would save time by jotting ideas straight on the computer. Thirdly, internet is a useful tool for using the Google translation. If you had to write it down you would have to use the dictionary and it would take you several hours. Instead of that you would use the Google translation that would save you a lot of time. The special thing about Google translation is that you could write any sentence or paragraph in English and then you would get the translation from another language. Also you would have to use books and dictionary to find each word and write it in a paragraph or sentence that would take you a lot of time and 88% of people use Google translation. Therefore, internet is a useful tool for Google translation. In conclusion, I agree internet is useful tool for high school students because firstly, you can finish off your project and research quickly. Secondly, you can save your document into your e-mail. Thirdly, you can use Google translation to translate words. Internet these days is very advanced because the internet is a very helpful tool and the internet helps the student complete their homework faster than it takes for a student to finish their homework by researching books and dictionaries. The Economy Q: What is wrong with the economy? -  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  A terrible loss of jobs, over 2 million jobs have been lost. However I would like to state it isn’t just one person’s fault. -  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The complete and utter desolation of the tech industry†¦ we all know about the dot com bust and how many problems that caused. -  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Also September 11th didn’t help too much. The terrorist’s defiantly achieved their objectives in really messing up our way of life. While the wealthy are becoming richer and the number of millionaires and billionaires is skyrocketing, there is another reality. Since 1973, 80% of all families have seen their incomes decline or remain stagnant. The average American today is working longer hours for less income-and has every reason to worry that the future will be even worse for his or her children. Television news shows may not feature it. Reader's Digest may not discuss it, and the leaders of the Democratic and Republican parties may not make it a priority, but the decline in the standard of living of the average worker is, far and away, the most important and central issue facing this country. The rich are getting richer; the poor are getting poorer; and the middle class is shrinking. This is the great truth of contemporary U.S. society. It may sound dramatic but I believe that the future of the nation depends upon reversing this destructive process. There are a number of reasons why inequality in wealth and income in America has grown over the last 20 years. President Jimmy Carter in 1977 and President Ronald Reagan in 1981 and 1986 instituted "tax reform" with the support and approval of the Democratic Congress. The results were to lower taxes significantly on the wealthy and the large corporations, and raise them for almost everyone else. Taxes on the very wealthy were cut 12.3%; working- and middle-class Americans saw theirs grow. One of the "reforms" was a large increase in the regressive Social Security tax. Q: What steps have been taken to improve the economy?   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  There have been multiple interest rate cuts by Greenspan and tax cuts brought on by President Bush, which I believe didn’t really do much. Q: What are the solutions? - Raise the minimum wage. The minimum wage, which has lost 26% of its purchasing power over the last 20 years, must be increased. People cannot survive on $5.15 an hour.

Search for Kinship in Joyce’s A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   At the heart of James Joyce’s A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man lies Stephen Dedalus, a sensitive young man concerned with discovering his purpose in life. Convinced that his lack of kinship or community with others is a shortcoming that he must correct, Stephen, who is modeled after Joyce, endeavors to fully realize himself by attempting to create a forced kinship with others. He tries many methods in hopes of achieving this sense of belonging, including the visiting of prostitutes and nearly joining the clergy. However, it is not until Stephen realizes, as Joyce did, that his true calling is that of the artist that he becomes free of his unrelenting, self-imposed pressure to force connections with others and embraces the fact that he, as an artist, is fully realized only when he is alone. Stephen is painfully aware of his difficulty relating to others early on— the other boys at his first school mock him about his name and his family; his body feels "small and weak" amongst the other boys’ on the football field; he is pushed into a ditch. (Joyce, 246) Frequently, Stephen appears to mentally separate from himself and observe himself from outside Earth’s confines; he writes a progression of "himself and where he was" that reads "Stephen Dedalus†¦Class of Elements†¦Clongowes Wood College†¦Sallins†¦County Kildare†¦Ireland†¦Europe†¦The World†¦The Universe". (Joyce, 255) Though Stephen demonstrates by this list that he is all too aware of his own self and his technical place in the universe, his need to solidify this awareness to himself reveals his uncertainties about how he relates to his surroundings. "With a sudden movement she bowed his head... ...dom and power of his soul, as the great artificer whose name he bore, a living thing, new and soaring and beautiful, impalpable, imperishable". (Joyce, 433) Stephen is now fully able to create from within himself, without being dependent on others to feel whole. This is accentuated by Joyce’s description of the beach scene— "He was alone. He was unheeded, happy and near to the wild heart of life". (Joyce, 433) Stephen the artist is alone and needs to be alone, not to search in vein for companionship that, even if attained, could only drag him from his newfound freedom. This realization of self-fulfillment and self-control is the single defining point in Stephen’s education; it is the brushstroke that completes the "Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man." Estimated Heat Distribution by Convection in Water Essay

Introduction This report assesses the distribution of heat by convection in water to estimate the heat conductivity of water. The transfer of heat from a heating coil to a fluid is conduction but the heat transfer within the fluid is convection. This is basically fluid flow of particles arising from nature, heat, chemical or kinetics. The distribution of heat is assessed with various factors introduced. In this case a magnetic stirrer and a motor. This report presents an estimate of the effect of free and forced convention on the distribution of heat in water. Experimental method The apparatus were arranged as shown in fig. 1. A beaker of five litre capacity was places on a motor, four litres (4L) of cold water was put in a beaker. A heating coil and three thermometers were placed at various depths in the beaker of water and their various distances from the base of the beaker were recorded. Power was supplied to the motor and heating coil and at intervals of four minutes each; the temperatures on all three thermometers were read simultaneously. After four successful readings, the electricity supply was disconnected and the ambient temperature was recorded. This same procedure was repeated twice, the first with a magnetic stirrer and the next time without the magnetic stirrer but the motor operating. Table 1 shows the ambient temperature readings collected before the experiment was carried out. It also shows the positions of the heating coil and thermometers from the base of the of the beaker. Results The time was kept in minutes to measure the intervals at which readings were taken. The temperature of the water was measured with thermometers in degreed Celsius and recalculated in degrees Kelvin and the positions of the heating coil and thermometers were also measured in meters. This can be confirmed by the comparison of the energy input calculated based on experimental values with the energy input calculated based on the theoretical values. Readings to support this is shown in Table 3 and fig 3. A poor distribution of heat occurred in the first experiment where the water was heated freely. This is represented in Table 2 and figure 2 and by comparison of the experimental and theoretical values of the energy inputs. In experiment 3 where only the motor was used the graph 3 and figure 4 shows a better distribution of heat compared to experiment 1. Conclusion In a freely heated body of water, higher temperatures are taken from closer to the surface and lower temperatures towards the bottom. With introduction of kinetic energy from the stirrer and motor, the velocity of fluid flow increased thereby increasing the rate of heat transfer and the even distribution of heat through the water. This shows that water is a poor conductor of heat energy if heated with free convection.
